Book Upanayanam (Sacred Thread Ceremony)
Upanayanam is the sacred thread samskara that initiates a boy into Vedic study and formally links him to his guru and gotra. The ceremony includes the tying of the yajnopavita (janeu), the whispering of the Gayatri mantra into the boy’s ear, the first Brahmopadesham and the offering of samidha into the sacred fire.
When is Upanayanam (Sacred Thread Ceremony) performed?
Traditionally performed between the ages of seven and sixteen on an auspicious muhurat, often in the Uttarayana half of the year and avoiding inauspicious months.
