Janana Shaanti is performed to remove the doshas arising from the specific nakshatra, tithi or yoga present at the moment of a child’s birth — for example birth in gandanta, on Amavasya, or under certain padas of Moola, Jyeshtha or Ashlesha. The homa invokes the presiding deities to protect the newborn and the parents from any inauspicious effects of that janma sanyoga.
When is Janana Shaanti Homa performed?
Performed soon after birth, usually within the first few months and after the birth-chart is cast, when a janana (birth-time) dosha is identified.
