An online kundli reading is simply a Vedic astrology consultation held over WhatsApp, a phone call or video instead of in person. The chart is the same, the astrologer is the same — only the distance disappears. This guide covers what you need to have ready, what a reading can and cannot tell you, and how to get the most out of a short session.

Use astrology as traditional spiritual guidance. It is not a scientific, medical, mental-health, legal or financial assessment. Do not delay qualified care or base a high-stakes health, safety, money or relationship decision on a reading alone.

The three details every astrologer needs

A janma kundli (birth chart) is cast from exactly three facts:

• Date of birth — day, month and year. It is combined with the birth time and place to calculate the planetary positions.
• Time of birth — as precise as you know it. The lagna (ascendant) changes roughly every two hours, and the Moon moves about one degree every two hours, so the time affects your house layout and may affect your nakshatra near a boundary.
• Place of birth — the city or town. It supplies the latitude, longitude and time zone used to calculate the chart.

In Vimshottari dasha practice, the starting dasha and its balance depend on the Moon’s nakshatra and precise position at birth. Birth date alone is therefore not enough; time and place matter to the calculation.

What if I do not know my birth time?

You can still ask for a consultation. Tell the astrologer the approximate part of the day — early morning, morning, afternoon, evening or night — and ask whether their practice includes birth-time rectification using known life events or prashna (horary) astrology, which uses the time of the question. Before the session, check a birth certificate, hospital discharge summary or an elder's memory; a narrower time window may allow a more specific traditional interpretation.

What a kundli reading covers

• Your lagna and Moon sign — traditional interpretations of temperament and the houses emphasized in the chart, not a health diagnosis.
• Current dasha and transits — which planetary period you are in and what it tends to signify in the tradition; this is not a prediction or professional advice.
• Doshas and yogas — how the practitioner’s tradition interprets Mangal (Kuja) dosha, Kaal Sarp yoga, Pitru dosha or a Shani period in the chart.
• Timing — dates considered favourable in that practice for a ceremony or other planned event; this is not a prediction.

How kundli matching for marriage works

Kundli matching needs the birth date, time and place of both partners. The astrologer may discuss the ashtakoota / guna milan score (out of 36), Mangal dosha and the two dasha sequences according to their practice. Ask for the reasoning rather than relying on one score. How remedies are discussed — and when to be cautious
